It is with great pleasure that we take this opportunity to update you in our Canadian Rhinosinusitis Best Practices and Standards Working Group’s efforts for enhanced physician, public and government awareness of sinusitis in Canada. This alliance was created in 2011 as the only multi-disciplined professional association to be the single, national voice on rhinosinusitis: Canadian data – Canadian community.
The four key areas of the Working Group include:
- Optimal treatment management
- Physician awareness/education
- Patient outreach advocacy
Our collaboration includes
AMMI – Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada [represented by Gerald Evans] CAEP – Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians [new representative to be determined] CSACI – Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology [represented by Paul Keith] CSO-HNS – Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery [represented by Ian Witterick] FPAGC – Family Physician Airways Group of Canada [represented by Alan Kaplan]
Since the launch of the collaborative this Not-for-Profit group has developed and published guidelines on acute and chronic rhinosinusitis, developed educational resources, including a free iPad app to help disseminate the guidelines to primary care and specialist physicians across Canada. We have developed a website [sinuscanada.com], participated in media outreach/response, developed CME slide presentations and have spoken at several conferences. We are working with several talented researchers who are working diligently to obtain pharmacoeconomic data to illustrate possible cost saving models for treatment to our government.
We look forward to a continued partnership with you. We welcome your feedback at any time and will provide you with important updates as needed.
With sincere appreciation,
Canadian Rhinosinusitis Best Practices and Standards Working Group
